Of all the places in all the world to watch the sun go down, Bali is one of the finest. With spectacular views over the Indian Ocean from almost every beachfront spot, ‘doing sunset’ is one of the favourite activities of tourists and locals alike. That said, it’s easy to find yourself being charged an arm and a leg for a coconut or a Bintang while being simultaneously deafened by cheesy 80s music, instead of being able to enjoy the sunset, if you don’t know the good places to go. We’ve spent quite some time exploring old and new sunset destinations. To make your holiday extra special; we share our top picks here.
Ku De Ta
This Bali beachfront Icon was one of the first places that became famous for its sunset scene, and it’s still one of our faves with its endless panoramic views and discreet service. We also love that they celebrate families every Sunday by providing fun activities for the little ones like face painting and a jumping castle, so the adults can chill out with a wine knowing the kids are having fun too.
We love watching the sunset with tropical inspired cocktails from the Pool Bar at The Legian. Triple decked infinity pools ripple gently toward the ocean as the sky dazzles with spectacular sunset colours. When we fancy a treat we visit the Champagne lounge for one of their famous and decadent Champagne brunches. These are super popular so booking is a must!
Recently one of our preferred Bali hotspots, La Plancha, has become the place to be for Sunset every Wednesday with their regular sunset DJ set followed by a beach party. Chill out in the soft ocean breeze as the sun goes down, and then dance your heart out under the stars. La Plancha has made itself famous with its old school vintage music and combined Spanish hospitality with Balinese vibe. This is a uniquely Bali experience that mustn’t be missed!
Potato Head Beach Club
We get a kick out of trying new cocktails here at Potato Head. They’re all amazing, with house-infused spirits, indigenous traditional fruits, exotic spices and almost exclusively regionally sourced ingredients. Potato Head prides itself on respecting the ‘garden to glass’ concept and both the cocktails and the mocktails are refreshing and deliciously suited to the tropical climate. This is one of the spots we consider best for celeb spotting in Bali as it’s become an iconic sunset destination for movers and shakers of the world when they visit the island.
Rooftop Sunset Bar at Double-Six
Designed in the style of a New York speak easy, 40 Thieves boasts a fascinating array of artisanal spirits and handcrafted cocktails. We love sitting at the burnished copper bar and trying 1…or 3 of mixologist Shah Dillon’s creations. And so will you! Upstairs from Mad Ronin’s on Jl Petitenget this is a taste of Bali bar and nightlife at its finest.
